Furniture Care Guide
Wood Care Essentials
Natural wood is a living material — it breathes, expands, and contracts with humidity. These six practices will protect its beauty and structural integrity for decades.
Dust Daily with a Dry Cloth
Use a soft, lint-free microfabric cloth to wipe surfaces daily. Always wipe in the direction of the wood grain to avoid micro-scratches. Never use abrasive sponges or steel wool.
Polish Monthly
Apply a good quality wood polish or beeswax once a month. This nourishes the wood, fills micro-pores, and creates a protective barrier against moisture and stains. Apply sparingly and buff to a shine.
Control Humidity
Wood expands in high humidity and contracts when dry. In Bangladesh’s climate, keep indoor humidity between 45–55% where possible. Avoid placing furniture directly under ceiling fans or AC vents.
Protect from Heat & Sunlight
Direct sunlight causes fading and can warp or crack wood surfaces over time. Use curtains or UV-filtering window film. Always use coasters for hot cups and trivets for hot dishes — heat marks are irreversible without refinishing.
Clean Spills Immediately
Blot — don’t rub — liquid spills immediately with an absorbent cloth. For sticky residue, use a cloth barely dampened with lukewarm water. Dry the area thoroughly afterwards. Never let moisture sit on the surface.
Annual Deep Refinish
Every 2–3 years, consider a light sand and re-polish by a professional. This removes surface scratches, revives the wood’s natural lustre, and provides a fresh protective coat. Ecobuild offers this as a paid maintenance service.

Golden Rules
Do’s & Don’ts
The most common causes of avoidable damage — and exactly what to do instead.
Always Do
- Use soft, dry microfibre cloths for regular dusting and cleaning
- Apply coasters, placemats, and trivets under all drinks and dishes
- Use felt pads under decorative objects to prevent surface scratches
- Polish and condition wood surfaces regularly with appropriate products
- Clean spills immediately by blotting — never rubbing
- Allow wood to breathe — ensure ventilation around all sides of furniture
- Lift furniture when moving — dragging damages legs and floor surfaces
- Keep indoor plants away from wood surfaces to prevent moisture damage
- Store outdoor furniture pieces indoors during heavy monsoon periods
- Contact Ecobuild for professional refinishing every 2–3 years
Never Do
- Use harsh chemical cleaners, bleach, or ammonia-based products on any surface
- Allow standing water or liquid to remain on wood for any length of time
- Place furniture in direct, sustained sunlight without UV protection
- Position furniture directly under ceiling fans or against damp walls
- Use abrasive scrubbers, steel wool, or rough sponges on any surface
- Place hot items directly on wood surfaces — always use a trivet
- Drag furniture across floors — this damages both the floor and furniture legs
- Ignore mould growth — treat it immediately before it spreads
- Attempt DIY repairs on structural damage — contact a professional
- Use silicone-based sprays on wood — they block natural pores over time
